The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said he wanted Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara to secure a second term in office despite their past political differences.

Speaking during his monthly media chat, Wike said he had publicly demonstrated his support for Fubara by endorsing him during the flag-off of the Rivers Ring Road project, where he stated that completing the project would strengthen the governor’s chances of re-election.

According to the minister, Fubara is a member of their political structure, and supporting him for a second term was part of efforts to sustain the group’s political system rather than an act of political godfatherism.

Wike, however, said the political crisis that engulfed Rivers State ultimately affected Fubara’s ambition to seek another term, adding that those who genuinely supported the governor were disappointed by the outcome.

He maintained that he still has affection for Fubara and insisted that his support for the governor was sincere despite their previous disagreements.

The remarks come months after both political leaders reconciled following a prolonged rift that had dominated Rivers State’s political landscape.
