United States President Donald Trump has claimed he could become the last Republican president if Democratic Senate candidate Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed wins his bid for the U.S. Senate, citing El-Sayed’s support for abolishing the Senate filibuster.

Trump made the remarks in a post on Truth Social after El-Sayed secured the Democratic nomination for Michigan’s U.S. Senate seat.

According to the president, ending the filibuster would give Democrats a major political advantage by making it easier to pass legislation and reshape key institutions.

Addressing Republican senators, Trump urged them to oppose any effort to eliminate the procedural rule, arguing that it would significantly strengthen Democratic influence in Congress and the judiciary.

He claimed that abolishing the filibuster could lead to Democrats gaining additional Senate and House seats, increasing their electoral strength, expanding the Supreme Court, and making it difficult for Republicans to regain the presidency.

Trump’s comments come amid renewed debate over the Senate filibuster, which generally requires 60 votes to advance most legislation. While some Democrats support abolishing or reforming the rule to allow bills to pass with a simple majority, others remain divided on the issue.
