Nigerian troops have repelled an attack by suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a military base in Garaha, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, killing six insurgents and recovering arms and ammunition.
The operation was carried out by troops of Sector 4, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), following a coordinated assault on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Garaha.
The Acting Military Information Officer of the headquarters of the joint task force, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement obtained on Tuesday.
According to Goni, the suspected terrorists advanced on foot from the LAR axis and launched the attack at approximately 9:07 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 2026, in an attempt to overrun the military position.
“However, troops responded with superior firepower and tactical coordination, decisively repelling the assault and forcing the terrorists to retreat,” Goni stated.
He said a subsequent search of the area led to the discovery of six bodies, confirming that six insurgents had been killed during the encounter.
The military also recovered one PKT machine gun with three ammunition belts containing 67 rounds, six AK-47 rifles, 11 AK-47 magazines, 157 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 120 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and one 60mm mortar bomb.
Goni added that wounded military personnel were receiving medical attention, while troops had intensified surveillance and maintained heightened vigilance in surrounding areas to prevent further attacks.
Garaha, the birthplace of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, is among several communities in Hong Local Government Area that have experienced repeated attacks in recent months and years.
