The 2027 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has said he would put sellotape over the mouth of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, if he appointed him to his administration.
Adebayo made the statement during an interview with Symfoni TV while discussing governance, the performance of the Bola Tinubu administration and recent political developments.
The SDP candidate, however, praised Wike’s work ethic and his contribution to infrastructure development in the FCT.
Adebayo said previous FCT ministers had achieved far less, adding that Nigeria would have better infrastructure if commissioners of works across the states matched Wike’s output.
“I respect Wike for one thing: that he has a good work ethic. He can work,” Adebayo said.
He acknowledged concerns over the possible inflation of contracts awarded under Wike and questions about value for money, but maintained that visible infrastructure projects were being executed.
According to him, the projects have made movement easier and improved daily life in the nation’s capital.
Despite his commendation, Adebayo criticised Wike’s communication style and his approach to the use of force and state power, describing him as a “bad example for Nigerian politics.”
He said Wike’s ability to deliver infrastructure did not excuse what he considered his inappropriate political conduct and public communication.
