The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has commended the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for its economic reforms, stating that Nigeria’s economy is now growing faster than its population for the first time.

Speaking at the 31st Nigerian Economic Summit, Sanusi, a former CBN Governor, said the apex bank had restored macroeconomic stability by addressing years of excessive money supply and loose monetary policies.

He praised the CBN’s efforts to tighten monetary conditions, noting that the bank had successfully reduced the liquidity overhang inherited from previous administrations.

According to Sanusi, the reforms have created a more stable economic environment and positioned the country for stronger growth.

His remarks come shortly after the CBN retained the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) at 26.50 per cent for the second consecutive meeting as part of measures to curb inflation, which stood at 15.91 per cent in June 2026.
