The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of acclaimed Nollywood director, Dimbo Atiya.
Atiya reportedly passed away on Thursday morning, although the cause of his death has not yet been made public.
The sad news was announced by the founder of the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards, Seun Oloketuyi, in a post shared on Instagram.
He wrote, “Dimbo Atiya is dead. The top Nollywood director passed on this morning. Details later.”
Reacting to the news, Nollywood actor Mofe Duncan expressed shock and grief, describing the late filmmaker as one of the entertainment industry’s brightest talents.
In an Instagram post, Duncan wrote, “God no, not Dimbo. I’m devastated. One of the greatest minds of the entertainment industry.”
Dimbo Atiya was widely respected for his contributions to Nigeria’s film industry and was regarded as one of Nollywood’s leading directors.
His death comes just hours after reports of the passing of actress Tope Osoba, marking a sad day for the Nigerian entertainment industry.
