The 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vice-presidential candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa, has revealed that he knew the party would lose the presidential election even before the results were announced.
Okowa made the disclosure at a recent event in his home state, Delta.
The former Delta State governor said his assessment of the political situation had led him to inform Christian leaders before the election that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would win, while the PDP would come second and the Labour Party (LP) would finish third.
“I knew we would not win the election. And even when I met with the Christian leaders, I told them that APC will win, while PDP will come second and then Labour Party will come third,” he said.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Bola Tinubu of the APC winner of the 2023 presidential election, with Atiku Abubakar of the PDP finishing second and Peter Obi of the Labour Party coming third.
Okowa was Atiku’s running mate in the election, which saw Tinubu emerge as Nigeria’s president.
