The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Enugu State, Ocho Obodoeze, has joined the Obi Obere Chukwu Awgu Health Mission Foundation to unveil a fully equipped free emergency ambulance service aimed at improving access to urgent medical care across the Greater Awgu Federal Constituency.
The unveiling ceremony, held at Patbenson Hotel, Awgu, marked a significant intervention in grassroots healthcare, particularly for residents who may require immediate transportation to medical facilities during emergencies.
The ambulance is equipped with oxygen and other essential life-saving medical equipment and will provide emergency transportation for patients requiring urgent medical attention at Phase Aid Hospital and other nearby healthcare facilities.
Speaking at the event, Obodoeze commended the founder, coordinator and members of the Obi Obere Chukwu Health Mission Foundation for what he described as a commendable humanitarian initiative focused on saving lives and bringing healthcare services closer to the people.
He stressed that healthcare development should not be left to government alone, calling for stronger collaboration among government institutions, private organisations, foundations and non-governmental organisations.
“Healthcare is not for government alone. We must work with organisations like this to sustain lives and bring development closer to our people,” Obodoeze said.
The ADC governorship candidate also pledged that, if elected governor in 2027, his administration would establish stronger partnerships with credible private organisations and NGOs to improve healthcare delivery and other critical sectors across Enugu State.
According to the Obi Obere Chukwu Health Mission Foundation, the intervention is targeted at making a direct impact at the grassroots, beginning with emergency healthcare services for communities across Awgu, Aninri and Oji River Local Government Areas, which constitute the Greater Awgu Federal Constituency.
The ceremony attracted ADC leaders, candidates, community stakeholders and supporters, including General Chris Eze (rtd.), Caretaker Chairman, ADC Enugu State; Comrade A.C. Ude, Caretaker Secretary; Lolo Queen Nwankwo, State Organizing Secretary; Hon. Paul Anigbogu, State Coordinator, G24 Enugu State; Hon. Okey Okeagu, Administrative Secretary, ADC; Hon. Somkenechukwu Nwankwo, House of Assembly Candidate for Enugu South; Engr. Charles Chinweze, Awgu LG Party Chairman; Chief Sunday Nwafor (Nwachief), Chairman of all Chairmen, Awgu LGA; Hon. Beneth Kene, Zonal Youth Leader, Enugu West; Hon. Vincent Nwafor; and Hon. Samuel Ogudu, Aninri LGA Chairman, among others.
The new ambulance is expected to serve as a critical emergency lifeline for residents of the constituency, particularly in situations where prompt transportation to a healthcare facility could determine the outcome of a medical emergency.
