The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and observe preventive measures following the confirmation of an imported Ebola case in Kenya.

The agency said it had strengthened national surveillance and preparedness measures over concerns about the possible international spread of the disease.

According to the NCDC, the case in Kenya was caused by the Bundibugyo virus and is linked to an ongoing outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The agency, however, said that as of October 6, 2026, no case of Ebola had been confirmed in Nigeria.

The NCDC said it was reviewing the risk posed to Nigeria and working with relevant government authorities and partners to strengthen preparedness and response measures.

It advised Nigerians to maintain regular hand hygiene by washing their hands with soap and water or using an alcohol-based hand sanitiser.

The agency also warned against contact with the blood or other body fluids of sick people, as well as contact with the bodies of people who died from unknown illnesses.

Nigerians were further advised to avoid handling sick or dead wild animals and refrain from eating raw or poorly cooked bushmeat.

The NCDC urged anyone who develops symptoms suggestive of Ebola or falls ill after a potential exposure to seek medical attention promptly at a recognised health facility.

The agency stressed that continued vigilance and early reporting were essential to ensuring that any potential case is detected and managed promptly.

Ebola is a severe viral disease that can cause serious illness and death. It is primarily transmitted through direct contact with the blood or body fluids of an infected person or animal.
