Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has dismissed allegations linking him to the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, describing the claims as false.

Speaking on Friday during the inauguration of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry at the Executive Council Chamber, Governor’s Office, Agodi, Ibadan, Makinde said the panel was established to uncover the truth behind the incident and restore public confidence.

The commission is expected to independently investigate the circumstances surrounding the May 15, 2026 abduction in the Esiele and Yawata communities, identify any institutional or operational lapses, and recommend measures to prevent similar incidents.

Addressing the allegations against him, the governor said, “They said I orchestrated the kidnap,” stressing that the attack on the students and teachers was an assault on every Nigerian child’s right to receive an education in a safe environment.

Makinde expressed gratitude for the safe return of the victims but maintained that the government’s responsibility did not end with their rescue. He said the inquiry would help establish the truth, ensure accountability, strengthen public trust, and provide reforms aimed at preventing future occurrences.
