LG Electronics has commissioned its 21st solar-powered borehole in Nigeria at Osan Agba, Oke Oka Akoko, Ondo State, as part of its initiative to provide clean and reliable water to underserved communities.
The project is designed to improve access to water for residents while reducing dependence on the national electricity grid through the use of solar energy.
Speaking at the commissioning, the Chairman of Akoko South West Local Government, Hon. Ayọ Ajana, described the intervention as an example of how collaboration between the private sector and communities can address basic development needs.
He said water was fundamental to the wellbeing of communities and urged residents to take ownership of the facility and protect it for future generations.
Community leaders, including Hon. Ologunbaba Ruben, Chief Darusa Adedibu and Hon. Ajulo Tayo, also expressed appreciation to LG Electronics, noting that reliable access to clean water would benefit households, children and the wider community.
The Oke Oka Akoko project brings the number of solar-powered boreholes delivered by LG Electronics across Nigerian communities to 21. It follows the company’s 20th installation in Nariya Rigasa, Kaduna State.
The Managing Director of LG Electronics Nigeria, Mr. Hyoung Sub Ji, represented by the General Manager, Media Entertainment Solutions, TV Department, Mr. Choongbae Seok, said the milestone was significant not because of the number alone but because of the communities and people benefiting from the initiative.
Seok said the solar-powered model was designed with sustainability in mind, stressing that the company wanted infrastructure that would continue serving communities beyond its commissioning.
The company said the initiative combines clean water access, renewable energy and community participation, with residents encouraged to take responsibility for maintaining the facility.
For residents of Osan Agba, the project means one thing: clean water is now closer to home.
