Jigawa State Governor’s aide on New Media, Comrade Muhammad Garba, has criticised the African Democratic Congress, ADC, over its poor performance in the just-concluded Osun State governorship election.

Garba made the remarks on Sunday in a post on his official Facebook page while reacting to the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term.

He said the election outcome showed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had demonstrated his commitment to democracy by allowing citizens to exercise their civic responsibilities without interference.

According to him, the results showed that Adeleke won in 19 of the 30 Local Government Areas in the state, while the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, won in 11.

Adeleke polled 511,067 votes against Oyebamiji’s 444,811, while the ADC secured only 17,180 votes.

Garba, however, criticised the ADC over its performance, despite what he described as the party’s “outbursts and propaganda” ahead of the election.

“I have been telling our people that this ADC will not make any impact. It only exists in a few local governments in the North.

“I was shocked by the poor performance of the ADC in the just-concluded Osun State governorship election,” he said.

He said the election result went beyond the number of votes recorded, describing it as a significant expression of democratic choice and an opportunity to assess the state of democracy under the Tinubu administration.

Garba argued that the election demonstrated that occupying the presidency did not automatically mean that every election conducted under an administration must be won by the president’s political party.

He said this distinction was crucial to the survival of democracy.

“When electoral institutions are allowed to function independently and citizens are free to choose their leaders, it strengthens public confidence in democracy and demonstrates the resilience of Nigeria’s democratic institutions,” he said.
