An advocacy group, Voice of Fulani, has demanded monetary compensation from the Plateau State Government over what it described as years of killings, destruction of communities and cattle rustling affecting Fulani people across the state.

The group made the demand in a communiqué issued after its congress meeting in Jos on Friday, October 9, 2026.

In the communiqué signed by its convener, Alhassan Lamido, the group alleged that Fulani communities had suffered attacks, destruction of property and displacement for more than two decades, particularly in Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Mangu, Bassa, Bokkos, Jos South and Jos East Local Government Areas.

It claimed that the incidents had disrupted livelihoods and affected the well-being of Fulani residents, warranting compensation from the state government.

“We, the Voice of Fulani, on behalf of the larger Fulani communities in Plateau State, hereby demand, through this communiqué issued on Friday, October 9, 2026, both monetary and residual compensation from the state government for the killing of our people, rustling of our cows and destruction of our communities in different parts of the state,” Lamido said.

He explained that the group had yet to determine the exact amount being demanded, as it was still consulting Fulani leaders across the state and compiling records of alleged losses.

However, Lamido said the proposed compensation could run into billions of naira.

He further alleged that Fulani communities had suffered attacks and cattle rustling by local militia groups over the years, claiming that public narratives often portrayed Fulani people as aggressors.

“There are hundreds of reports, videos and pictures of Fulani pastoralist communities that show the kind of injustice that has been committed against them. We will present this information and show it to the world in our quest for justice,” he said.

Lamido acknowledged that criminal elements existed among Fulani people but opposed what he described as deliberate attempts to blame the entire group for the violence in the state.

He said Voice of Fulani was compiling its demands and would present a comprehensive position, including a breakdown of the proposed compensation, after consultations with community leaders.
