The Vice-Chancellor of the Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM), Prof. Timothy Terseer Alabar, has disclosed that five suspects have been arrested in connection with the alleged killing of a lecturer of the institution, Prof. Gabriel Saawuan Nyityo.
Alabar made the disclosure on Monday while responding to questions from journalists in Makurdi.
Prof. Nyityo, a lecturer in the Department of History, was reportedly killed by unknown gunmen on July 7, 2026, at his residence in Makurdi alongside his younger sibling.
The Vice-Chancellor described the incident as a major setback to the university, particularly the Department of History.
He said five suspects had so far been arrested in connection with the killing, adding that information from security agencies indicated that the suspects were from Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
He expressed hope that ongoing investigations would lead to the full circumstances surrounding the killing and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
