A public affairs analyst and civil society advocate, Mohammed Kudu, has urged stakeholders in Nigeria’s aviation sector to embrace dialogue and ensure that the ongoing workers’ crisis does not compromise safety and operations.

Kudu made the call in a statement on Friday amid concerns over the escalating dispute in the sector.

The crisis recently disrupted operations at the Abuja Airport, with striking workers’ action leading to the cancellation of passenger flights.

Following the disruption, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), through its Director-General, Capt. Chris Ona Najomo, appealed to all parties to resolve their differences through dialogue.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, also summoned a meeting aimed at finding a lasting solution to the dispute.

Reacting to the development, Kudu called on the Federal Government and all stakeholders to work together to resolve their differences amicably.

He acknowledged concerns over safety oversight, consumer protection, regulatory stability and investment in aircraft acquisition, but stressed that disagreements should be handled constructively.

According to him, the aviation industry requires a collaborative approach at a time when the sector is undergoing reforms.

Kudu said the reforms being pursued by the administration could benefit air travellers and contribute to the long-term development of the sector if stakeholders work together.

He therefore urged all parties to “sheath their swords” and allow ongoing efforts to produce meaningful results.

Kudu stressed that Nigeria needs an aviation sector that is safe, efficient and competitive, capable of supporting the country’s economic growth.
