“Aisha Buhari’s decision is a masterstroke; I will mobilise women across Nigeria for ADC” — Nwankwo
The South-East Coordinator of Nigeria Women Unite for Atiku/Amaechi 2027 and Caretaker Organizing Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Enugu State, Chief Lolo Queen Ngozi Nwankwo, has applauded what she described as former First Lady, Hajia Aisha Buhari’s significant political engagement with former Vice President and ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Nwankwo described the development as a “masterstroke,” saying it has generated fresh momentum around the Atiku-Amaechi ticket and the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Her comments followed the September 17, 2026 meeting between Aisha Buhari and Atiku Abubakar in Abuja. Atiku publicly described the visit as “warm and deeply appreciated,” while using the occasion to emphasise the need to prioritise the welfare, dignity and future of Nigerians. However, neither Aisha Buhari nor Atiku has publicly disclosed details of any political agreement arising from the meeting. (Channels Television)
Reacting to the development, Nwankwo said she would deploy her political networks and experience to mobilise women across the country, particularly in the South-East, toward the ADC.
According to her, her immediate focus would include reaching out to former and serving women leaders across the political spectrum, including women leaders at the state, local government and ward levels.
“I will deploy everything within my human capacity to mobilize all former and current women leaders from my former party, the APC, into the African Democratic Congress,” she said.
Nwankwo, who said she previously served as Pioneer State Woman Leader of the APC in Enugu State and former BOT Chairman of the APC Women Leaders Forum, also pledged to leverage her extensive political contacts to expand the ADC’s grassroots network.
She further called on Nigerian women, especially those in the South-East, to identify with what she described as the ADC’s message of hope and political renewal.
The ADC has already formally announced former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election. The party said the ticket followed consultations involving party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women stakeholders and representatives of the geopolitical zones. (Channels Television)
Nwankwo also said her membership of the PDM family would provide an additional platform for reaching Atiku’s supporters and political associates across the South-East and beyond.
Speaking on the political situation in Enugu State, she expressed confidence in the grassroots activities of the ADC and the leadership of the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Ocho Obodoeze, popularly known as Ochoudo.
“With the level of grassroots work we are doing in Enugu State under the inspirational leadership of our gubernatorial candidate, His Excellency Ocho Obodoeze (Ochoudo), I am confident that Enugu State will be delivered for ADC,” she said.
Nwankwo urged women across the state and the South-East to become active participants in the political process as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
She concluded with a rallying call to ADC supporters:
“ADC is the moving train. The time is now.”
