Detained Nasarawa-based media activist Abdulkarim Allanana, popularly known as Oscar Keana, has been transferred from the Lafia Custodial Centre to the Medium Security Custodial Centre.
Allanana, leader of the Indigenous People of Nasarawa State, was reportedly moved on Tuesday morning following a directive from the Nigerian Correctional Service.
The activist was remanded by a Federal High Court sitting in Lafia after being arraigned by the Department of State Services (DSS) over alleged false publication concerning Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule.
He is facing a two-count charge bordering on alleged false information. The court subsequently adjourned proceedings to November 26 to hear his bail application.
Meanwhile, a source familiar with the matter alleged that additional charges could be filed against Allanana, potentially extending his detention ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The allegation has not been independently verified, while authorities have not publicly confirmed any plan to file fresh charges against the activist.
Efforts to obtain comments from the DSS and the Nigerian Correctional Service regarding the transfer and reported possibility of additional charges were unsuccessful as of press time.
