Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to establish a Master of Business Administration in Hajj Operations Management (MBA-HOM).
The agreement, facilitated through the ABU Distance Learning Centre and the NAHCON Hajj Institute of Nigeria (HIN), was signed on Friday at Hajj House in Abuja.
The partnership aims to strengthen capacity in hajj and umrah administration by jointly developing and delivering a specialised postgraduate programme focused on hajj operations and management.
Under the agreement, both institutions will collaborate on curriculum development, specialised training, professional seminars, executive education, research, internships, industry engagement and international partnerships.
ABU will oversee the academic aspects of the programme, including securing accreditation, admitting qualified candidates, providing lecturers, conducting examinations, approving results and awarding the MBA degree. The university will also ensure quality assurance and provide academic support to students.
NAHCON, through the Hajj Institute of Nigeria, will provide technical expertise on hajj and umrah operations, nominate qualified industry professionals as adjunct lecturers, facilitate practical training and field attachments, and support internship placements both within Nigeria and abroad.
Both organisations also agreed to promote research and innovation while protecting the intellectual property and authorship rights of students and the university.
The MoU was signed by ABU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, and NAHCON Chairman, Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, in the presence of senior officials from both institutions.
