Former Senate Leader and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Ali Ndume, has urged opposition parties to stop focusing on President Bola Tinubu’s academic qualifications ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Ndume made the call in a press statement on Monday, following renewed concerns over Tinubu’s academic credentials after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, published the qualifications of presidential candidates and their running mates.

The senator maintained that Tinubu has met the constitutional requirements to contest for the presidency, dismissing claims that a secondary school certificate must be specifically attached.

Citing Section 131(d) of the 1999 Constitution, Ndume said the law only requires a presidential candidate to be educated up to at least school certificate level or its equivalent.

He argued that opposition parties should instead focus on Tinubu’s policies and performance as President, noting that questions surrounding his eligibility had already been subjected to litigation following the 2023 presidential election.

Ndume described the continued focus on Tinubu’s certificate as a distraction from issues that should matter more to voters.
