The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has forgiven the senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, and the member representing Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency, Chris Nkwonta, over their support for the 2027 governorship ambition of Labour Party Governor Alex Otti.

The decision was announced during a stakeholders’ post-primary reconciliation meeting held at the APC secretariat in Umuahia on Sunday.

However, the party warned Kalu, Nkwonta and other members against making statements or taking actions capable of undermining the progress and unity of the APC.

The motion to forgive Kalu, Nkwonta and other aggrieved party members was moved by Uzor Azubuike, the APC House of Representatives candidate for Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency.

The motion was seconded by Emmanuel Ndubuisi, representing Bende South Federal Constituency, and subsequently approved through a voice vote by party members present.

Explaining the decision, the Abia APC Chairman, Chijioke Chukwu, said Kalu, Nkwonta and other aggrieved members had privately reached out to the party leadership to explain the circumstances surrounding their pro-Otti comments.

Chukwu, however, warned that the reconciliation should not be taken for granted, stressing that any further anti-party statements or actions would attract severe sanctions.

He said the party needed to remain united and focused if it was to defeat the ruling Labour Party in the 2027 governorship election.

The APC chairman also announced that the unauthorised suspension of some APC ward leaders across certain local government areas had been nullified.

He urged members to put their differences aside and work together to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
