The Presidency has criticised the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, over his promise to consider restoring fuel subsidy if elected president in 2027.
Atiku had, during a recent interview, said he would consider reversing the subsidy removal policy introduced by President Bola Tinubu.
Reacting to the statement, presidential spokesperson Sunday Dare accused the former vice president of attempting to manipulate Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dare, in a statement, described Atiku’s promise as “hypocrisy and deceit,” arguing that it was aimed at misleading Nigerians into supporting his presidential bid.
“Atiku Abubakar: Your pronouncement that you will bring back fuel subsidy is drenched in hypocrisy and deceit. It is an unpardonable manipulation of the public psyche, designed to hoodwink unsuspecting Nigerians into voting for you,” Dare said.
He further claimed that ongoing improvements in various sectors of the economy could be threatened if Atiku’s proposal were implemented.
“The ongoing recovery across various sectors of our national life annoys you, and will be halted if this thinking of yours is implemented. By the Grace of God, it will not happen and all good men of conscience must rise up against you,” he added.
