The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed September 19, 2026, for bye-elections to fill two vacant seats in the Bauchi State House of Assembly.

The affected constituencies are Sakwa State Constituency in Zaki Local Government Area and Disina State Constituency in Shira Local Government Area.

The Bauchi State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Umar Ibrahim, announced the date on Wednesday during a meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Electoral Security in Bauchi.

Ibrahim said INEC would issue the notice of election on August 20, while political party primaries would hold from August 21 to 25.

According to him, the online submission of nomination forms will begin on August 29 and close at 11:59 p.m. on September 2, while the final list of candidates will be published on September 8.

He added that political parties would have until September 10 to submit the names of their polling agents, while campaigns would end by midnight on September 17.

The REC disclosed that Sakwa Constituency has 100 polling units across five wards, while Disina Constituency has 95 polling units spread across five wards.

He urged political parties and candidates to comply with electoral guidelines and avoid actions capable of disrupting the exercise.

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, who co-chaired the meeting, assured stakeholders that the police would remain neutral and professional throughout the electoral process.

Aliyu also urged political parties to submit their campaign schedules in advance to enable the police to make adequate security arrangements.

The Sakwa seat became vacant following the death of its representative, Wanzam Zaki, who also served as Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation. He died on June 21, 2026.

The Disina seat became vacant after its former representative and Majority Leader of the House, Saleh Hodi, resigned to contest the Shira Local Government chairmanship election.
