Godfrey Okoye University Teaching Hospital (GOUNITH) has secured approval from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) to commence housemanship training for medical graduates.
The approval places GOUNITH among the private teaching hospitals authorised to train house officers, with an approved quota of 30 medical house officers.
The development comes after the university’s College of Medicine recently secured full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC), marking another significant milestone in its medical education programme.
With the two approvals, pioneer medical graduates of Godfrey Okoye University are expected to have a direct pathway from completing their medical degrees to commencing the mandatory housemanship programme.
The latest recognition also underscores the hospital’s clinical facilities, medical training standards and institutional capacity to provide practical experience for young doctors.
The achievement has been welcomed as a major boost to medical education at Godfrey Okoye University and a significant milestone for the university’s management, College of Medicine and entire academic community.
