Ekwulobia Suspends 2026 New Yam Festival Over Kidnap of Jezco Boss

Ekwulobia community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State has suspended its 2026 New Yam Festival following the reported abduction of one of its prominent sons, Chief Sir Joseph Ezeokafor, owner of Jezco Group of Companies and father of social media personality Jowi Zaza.

The annual festival, which was scheduled to hold on September 4, 2026, was reportedly called off after Ezeokafor was allegedly kidnapped on Tuesday evening.

He was said to have stepped out of his residence without his security personnel when the incident occurred.

The reported abduction has plunged the community into mourning, with residents expressing concern over the safety of the businessman and community member.

A source in Ekwulobia said the traditional ruler of the community, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Emmanuel Chukwukadibia Onyeneke, officially announced the suspension of the New Yam Festival.

According to the source, the traditional ruler stated that the community could not proceed with the celebration while Ezeokafor remained in the custody of his abductors.

The suspension is expected to remain in effect until the safe release of the kidnapped community member.

The development has cast a sombre mood over Ekwulobia as residents and well-wishers continue to hope for his safe return.
