Statement on the Viral Video Concerning the Booking of AMADEO EVENT CENTRE
Our attention has been drawn to viral videos circulating on social media claiming that the Management of Amadeo Event Centre prevented the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) from using our facility for a booked event. This claim is false. We set out the facts below:
On October 7, 2026, Dr Sabastine Chuks Ezeh (the Client), Registrar of the Nigeria Institute of Healthcare Givers and Medical Social Work Practitioners (hereinafter known as the Association), made a booking. In the Terms and Conditions of the Facility, the Client stated the rental was for a “National Meeting and Conference”. The Conference was scheduled for October 15, 2026.
*2)*On October 13, 2026, the Client wrote a “LETTER OF CANCELLATION AND REQUEST FOR REFUND”, on the headed paper of the Association, requesting that the event be cancelled and the deposit refunded. He later withdrew the cancellation on the grounds that the Association wanted to postpone, rather than cancel.
*3)*On October 23, 2026, the Client confirmed October 29, 2026, and we agreed that decoration would start on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
4) On the morning of October 28, 2026, the decoration materials that were brought were for a political party and had nothing to do with the Association. This clearly violated the contract for use of the place that we signed with the Client.
5) Clause 17 of the Terms and Conditions of Use of the Facility, which the Client signed, provides for the Right to Stop an Activity and reserves the right of Management to put a stop to any activity, meeting, or event not properly or reasonably conducted in line with the provisions of the terms and conditions or regulatory practices. It was on the basis of this violation that the Client was notified of the rescission of the right of use.
6) Upon receiving the notice of cancellation, Enugu State NDC officials and candidates entered our premises with security details. We were taken aback by the change of the client from the Association to an NDC political rally.
7) Despite the contractual violation, we allowed the event to proceed to forestall a breach of peace, after the organizers informed us it would now be used as a youth town hall meeting with Mr. Peter Obi.
Our position
*1)*No political party booked our facility. Our only booking for October 29, 2026, was with the Nigeria Institute of Healthcare Givers and Medical Social Work Practitioners for a “National Meeting and Conference”.
2) Amadeo Event Centre is a non-partisan venue. Our policy from inception has been to decline the use of our facilities for political purposes.
3) We did not request or seek police to deter the event. Rather, the policemen seen in trending videos were escorts for some of the political aspirants who came to the Event Centre after receiving the notice of cancellation.
4) At no point was the Enugu State Government (ENSG) part of this conversation. Management received no instruction, directly or indirectly, from any government official as this was purely a contractual matter.
5) This whole event has been distorted and viewed through a partisan perspective because of the current political season.
6) Amadeo Event Centre remains a venue for peaceful, lawful gatherings, including academic, social, religious, and corporate events.
