Five passengers sustained serious injuries after a 40-foot HOWO truck rammed into two commercial buses at Berger Bus Stop, inward Kara Bridge, around the Ojodu axis of Lagos State.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) disclosed this in a statement, identifying the vehicles involved as an interstate commercial Mazda bus and a Toyota Hiace bus.

The injured passengers comprised three females and two males, including one of the drivers.

“Reports indicate that the heavy-duty truck, travelling out of Lagos, rammed into the two commercial passenger vehicles, resulting in serious injuries to several occupants,” the statement said.

LASTMA operatives, with support from security personnel attached to Isheri Police Station, rescued the victims.

Volunteer motorists, accompanied by LASTMA officials, subsequently transported the injured passengers to the Lagos State Emergency and Trauma Centre at Toll Gate for medical assessment and treatment.

The agency said the accident caused severe traffic congestion, with vehicle queues extending to Otedola Bridge.

LASTMA officials cleared the truck and the two buses from the road to prevent further accidents and restore the free flow of traffic.

The vehicles were later handed over to the police for investigation into the cause of the crash and any necessary legal action.

LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, sympathised with the injured passengers and wished them a speedy recovery.

He emphasised the importance of responsible driving, compliance with road safety regulations and regular maintenance of heavy-duty vehicles.

Bakare-Oki warned that mechanical faults, reckless driving and loss of control could result in serious road accidents.

The agency urged truck operators to ensure their vehicles were roadworthy and advised motorists to exercise caution and obey traffic directives to prevent avoidable crashes.
