Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has called on President Bola Tinubu to apologise to Nigerians following the Federal Government’s proposal to introduce a 30-day petrol price discount at Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) filling stations.
Frank made the demand in a statement on Friday, arguing that the proposed intervention exposed inconsistencies in the administration’s position on fuel subsidy.
The Federal Government had proposed selling petrol at N1,350 per litre at NNPCL outlets for 30 days as part of efforts to ease the burden of rising fuel prices.
Reacting to the proposal, Frank said Tinubu should also apologise to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over previous attacks on his position regarding the possible return of fuel subsidy.
“We expect Tinubu and his government to first apologise to Atiku Abubakar for their previous attacks on his position on returning fuel subsidy if voted into office as President,” he said.
Frank further argued that Nigerians deserved an apology because the increase in petrol prices had affected more than the cost of filling vehicle tanks.
“Also Tinubu should apologise to Nigerians. For millions of Nigerians, the consequences of higher fuel prices have extended beyond the cost of filling a vehicle’s tank,” he stated.
According to the report, petrol was selling for between N1,370 and N1,400 per litre in Abuja and its environs at the time.
