The Kebbi State Government has warned political parties and their supporters against acts of thuggery and violence during campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Special Adviser to Governor Nasir Idris on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Idris Zuru, issued the warning in a statement released in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday.

Zuru was reacting to the recent violence in Jega, where properties were reportedly destroyed by suspected political thugs.

He condemned the incident and called on security agencies to investigate the circumstances and prosecute anyone found responsible, regardless of political affiliation.

“The State Government, therefore, calls on all political parties, their supporters, community leaders, and other stakeholders to exercise restraint and avoid actions or statements capable of escalating tension,” Zuru said.

He urged political actors to resolve differences through dialogue, lawful democratic processes and peaceful engagement rather than confrontation.

Zuru also warned political parties, groups and individuals against encouraging or participating in activities capable of undermining public peace and security.

He said the government would work with security agencies, traditional institutions and communities to protect lives and property and maintain peace across the state.

The governor’s aide urged residents to reject violence and inflammatory rhetoric as political activities increase, stressing that the government would not allow politically motivated violence to disrupt socio-economic development programmes and projects in the state.
