Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to provide financial support for artists and entertainers in the country.
The rapper made the request while reacting to a post on President Tinubu’s X account about the President’s meeting with entertainment and media executive Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group in Paris.
Odumodublvck urged the President to go beyond acknowledging the international achievements of Nigeria’s entertainment industry by providing financial backing for artists.
He also suggested that government support could help emerging artists and reduce financial pressures faced by entertainers working with record labels.
The rapper’s comments generated mixed reactions on social media, with some users criticising him for asking the government for financial assistance while, according to them, other national issues remain unresolved.
Responding to the criticism, Odumodublvck argued that artists rarely receive direct financial support from government compared with some civil servants and business owners.
He said he had yet to see an artist receive government funding to produce an album, despite Nigerian entertainers contributing to the country’s global cultural influence.
The rapper further appealed to President Tinubu for government backing, saying artists also deserve institutional support to develop their careers.
Odumodublvck’s latest comments have attracted renewed attention because of his previous reported decision to turn down a substantial payment to perform at a Tinubu campaign event.
His current appeal has consequently generated discussions online about government support for the entertainment industry and his position on President Tinubu’s administration.
