The Akwa Ibom State Government has denied allegations that Governor Umo Eno reported former governor Udom Emmanuel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), leading to the seizure of his property in Lagos.

The allegation was made by the 2027 governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, in a video circulating online.

However, the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, described the allegation as false, reckless and capable of threatening peace in the state.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Umo Eno has never reported anyone to the EFCC. I make bold to say that I have never reported anyone, talk more of my predecessor in office, to the EFCC,” Umanah said.

He said Governor Eno had consistently respected his predecessors and pursued reconciliation, including facilitating engagements at the highest levels of government for political harmony.

Umanah added that if the governor were driven by hostility, he would not have retained several officials from the previous administration or continued projects initiated by former governors.

The commissioner acknowledged the right of citizens to participate in politics and seek elective office but warned that political freedom did not permit the spread of falsehoods or actions capable of threatening the state’s peace and security.

He further cautioned that Governor Eno’s peaceful disposition should not be mistaken for weakness, while his commitment to reconciliation should not be interpreted as tolerance for provocation or destabilisation.
