The Nigeria Police Force has denied reports that officers deployed for the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election were neglected and left stranded in the state.
In a statement issued by the Force spokesperson, CSP Ani Iniedu, the police said the continued deployment of the personnel was part of established post-election security procedures and did not indicate neglect.
The clarification followed comments by Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, who mocked the police over reports that some officers remained in Osun weeks after the election.
Davido had questioned the reason for their continued presence in the state, asking on his verified X handle: “Could it be because dem no deliver?”
Reacting, the police explained that the extended deployment was aimed at maintaining security, preventing post-election violence, addressing emerging threats and ensuring a smooth return to normal policing.
The Force stressed that the duration of deployment is determined by operational and security requirements, rather than neglect of personnel.
