The All Progressives Congress, APC, has disowned Abayomi Hunye, who has claimed to be the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Ogun State, describing him as an impostor.

The party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, made this known in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, insisting that Senator Adeola Olamilekan remains the APC’s duly recognised governorship candidate in the state.

Basiru said Hunye was not a member of the APC in good standing, claiming that he was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area.

According to him, the suspension was ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee and subsequently communicated to the party’s national headquarters.

Basiru described Hunye’s recent declaration as the APC governorship candidate as “completely false, unauthorised, and a mischievous act” aimed at misleading the public.

He said the reasons for Hunye’s suspension included alleged activities considered injurious to the party’s image, anti-party activities and actions allegedly intended to cause division among party members.

The APC national secretary maintained that Olamilekan, with Balogun Abiodun as his running mate, emerged from the party’s validly conducted primary election and remains the recognised APC ticket for the 2027 Ogun governorship election.

Basiru further disclosed that the names and details of Olamilekan and Abiodun had been uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, portal, with official acknowledgement slips issued by the commission.

He warned individuals and organisations against conducting political activities or transactions with Hunye under the name of the APC, saying the party would not be responsible for any financial, legal or criminal consequences arising from such dealings.

Basiru urged APC members and supporters to remain calm, law-abiding and disregard what he described as attempts to disrupt the peace of the state.
