Nigeria will face Cameroon, not Ghana, in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Super Falcons finished as runners-up in Group C following Wednesday’s round of matches.
Justin Madugu’s side thrashed Egypt 6-2 to finish on six points, level with Malawi and Zambia.
Under CAF’s competition rules, only the matches involving the three tied teams—Nigeria, Malawi and Zambia—were considered in the head-to-head tiebreaker.
As a result:
- Malawi finished as Group C winners.
- Nigeria qualified as runners-up.
- Zambia were eliminated.
With CAF using a fixed knockout bracket, the Group C runners-up are paired against the winners of Group D in the quarter-finals.
Cameroon secured top spot in Group D after defeating Mali 2-1 and Ghana 1-0.
Ghana can finish no higher than second in the group after losing the head-to-head encounter against Cameroon.
The final Group D standings will be confirmed after Ghana take on Mali on Thursday, but Nigeria’s quarter-final opponent is already confirmed as the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon.
