The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has expressed hope that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be the last “embarrassing president” Nigeria will have.
Adebayo made the remark while reacting to the recent meeting between President Tinubu and a delegation from the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, during which concerns were raised about the country’s economic hardship.
The meeting generated public debate after Archbishop Emeritus John Cardinal Onaiyekan said the president dismissed the bishops’ concerns over the economic situation facing Nigerians.
Reacting to the development, Adebayo said the Catholic bishops should have immediately organised prayers for the president, arguing that Tinubu’s remarks during the meeting were inappropriate.
He maintained that the clergy should continue praying for the country’s leadership while also speaking truth to those in authority.
Adebayo added that he hopes Nigeria will not experience another president whose conduct he described as embarrassing.
