A female TikToker identified as Wasilat reportedly underwent a traditional cleansing ceremony after filming a procession associated with the sacred Oloolu Masquerade during the annual festival in Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to reports, the incident occurred during the Oloolu festival, held between July 27 and July 30. The TikToker allegedly recorded a figure linked to the revered masquerade despite longstanding traditional restrictions that prohibit women from viewing or recording the sacred procession.

Videos circulating online showed traditional custodians performing a cleansing ritual, which included shaving her hair, following claims that she experienced health challenges after sharing the footage.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson to the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, clarified that the woman did not film the Oloolu masquerade itself but rather recorded Alawo Oloolu, a figure associated with the Oloolu tradition.

He explained that after the incident, the woman’s family contacted the custodians of the Oloolu shrine, who carried out the traditional rites in line with the customs of the community.

The palace spokesperson added that while he could not confirm reports that the TikToker disguised herself as a man, he urged members of the public to respect cultural traditions and comply with established customs during such festivals.
