The Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, has expressed profound gratitude to God Almighty, Governor Peter Ndubisi Mbah and the great people of Awgu following his re-election for a second term in the Enugu State Local Government election held on Saturday, September 26, 2026.

In an appreciation message released through his Special Adviser on General Media and Publicity, Hon. Tochukwu Chukwu, Hon. Okolo thanked the Almighty God for His grace, mercy and protection, which he said culminated in the peaceful conduct and successful outcome of the election.

The chairman also expressed gratitude for what he described as God’s goodness to him and his family, particularly for the opportunity to serve the people of Awgu and to work under the administration of Governor Mbah.

Okolo shared his profound appreciation to Enugu State Governor for the confidence reposed in him, evident in creating every enabling environment for his administration in Awgu local government to continue to pursue developments at the grassroots.

According to him, the confidence reposed in local government leadership by the state government has encouraged elected officials to do their best in delivering developments to the people.

He described Governor Mbah as an exceptional leader whose administration has provided significant support for developments across the state and expressed his continued solidarity with the governor.

Okolo further stated that, in his view, the governor’s performance across various sectors of the state deserves continued recognition, while expressing support for Mbah’s second-term bid and the APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general election.

The chairman’s commendation comes against the backdrop of several development initiatives highlighted by the Enugu State Government, including road construction, education, healthcare, agriculture, tourism, transportation and other infrastructure projects across the state. The state government recently reported more than 10,000 milestones from the first term of the Mbah administration.

“THANK YOU, NDI AWGU”

The re-elected chairman reserved special appreciation for the people of Awgu Local Government Area, thanking them for what he described as their unconditional trust, support, love and prayers.

He particularly expressed gratitude to the electorate for voting for him again and entrusting him with another opportunity to lead the council.

“Thank you, Ndi Awgu, for your trust always and all your support, love and prayers, and for voting for me again.”

Okolo’s victory followed the September 26 council election, with the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission subsequently declaring him the winner of the Awgu chairmanship contest and one of the APC candidates elected across the state’s 17 local government areas.

PROMISES CONTINUITY AND INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT

Looking ahead to his second term, Okolo promised to continue from where his administration stopped and sustain the development momentum across Awgu.

He assured residents that his administration would remain focused on ensuring that ongoing grassroots projects and development initiatives extend to villages, communities and towns across the local government.

The chairman emphasised the importance of inclusive leadership, promising that every community would receive attention under his administration.

He said his second term would be dedicated to consolidating existing achievements, completing ongoing projects and advancing development in a manner that benefits residents across the entire local government area.

“EVERY COMMUNITY MATTERS”

Okolo’s appreciation message also reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots governance, with a pledge to ensure that development is not concentrated in a few areas but reaches communities across Awgu.

He expressed confidence that with the support of Ndi Awgu, relevant stakeholders and the state government, his administration would continue to deliver projects and initiatives that directly impact the lives of residents.

The chairman’s message marks the beginning of his second term with a renewed pledge of service, continuity and inclusive grassroots development.

He concluded by thanking God, Governor Mbah, political leaders, stakeholders, supporters and, most importantly, the people of Awgu for the confidence and mandate given to him.

“We will continue from where we stopped and make sure that every village, community and town benefits from ongoing grassroots projects and development,” he assured.
