Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, marking his first official leave since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

The development was disclosed on Thursday in Abuja by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha.

According to Nkwocha, the leave will allow the Vice President to dedicate time to study, reflection and strategic planning aimed at strengthening his leadership capacity.

He explained that the period would also provide an opportunity for Shettima to review the administration’s ongoing programmes, assess key policy priorities and deepen his understanding of emerging national and global issues.

Nkwocha said the exercise is intended to better prepare the Vice President for future responsibilities as the Federal Government continues the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Since taking office, Shettima has played a central role in coordinating and supervising several strategic government initiatives, particularly in the areas of economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.

He has also chaired meetings of the National Economic Council (NEC), which brings together the 36 state governors, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other senior government officials to deliberate on policies affecting the nation’s economy and the welfare of Nigerians.

Beyond his domestic responsibilities, the Vice President has represented President Tinubu at major regional and international engagements, promoting Nigeria’s interests in economic integration, peace and security, climate action, investment and sustainable development.

Nkwocha noted that Shettima remains committed to the values of loyalty, duty and service, adding that he will resume official duties at the end of the two-week leave.
