Arise News anchor Rufai Oseni has said that any presidential candidate who considers themselves too important to appear for a television interview is unlikely to serve Nigerians effectively if elected.

In a post shared on his X account, Oseni argued that candidates who avoid media interviews and public debates risk appearing disconnected from the people they seek to govern.

According to him, a presidential aspirant who refuses to engage with the public through television interviews would also be too distant from the citizens they hope to lead.

His remarks come as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, following the publication of the credentials and personal details of presidential candidates and their running mates by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Oseni maintained that openness, accountability and a willingness to answer questions from the public are essential qualities expected of anyone seeking Nigeria’s highest political office.
