The Rivers State Police Command has queried and relieved the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Abuloma Division and the officer overseeing the Abuloma Police Outpost of their duties following a viral video alleging that suspected cultists renovated the facility.
The video, which is circulating on social media, purportedly shows suspected cultists celebrating the completion of renovation work at the police outpost.
Reacting to the development, the command, in a statement issued on Friday by its spokesperson, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, said the incident raised concerns about the integrity, discipline and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
The statement added that the command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Olugbenga A. Adepoju, maintained zero tolerance for criminality and conduct capable of undermining public confidence in the police.
It read: “Under the leadership of CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, psc, mnips, fcai, the Command maintains zero tolerance for criminality and any conduct that undermines public confidence in the Police.
“Consequently, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Abuloma Division and the Divisional Officer overseeing the affected Police Outpost have been queried and relieved of their duties pending investigation.
“Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police has ordered a full investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and the veracity of the allegations.”
