Alex Otti has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to accelerating renewable energy development in Abia State through stronger collaboration with the Federal Government.
The governor made the pledge while receiving a delegation from the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and other federal agencies at the Abia State Government House on Thursday.
Otti assured the delegation that his administration would address pending operational challenges and activate existing agreements with the Federal Government to improve electricity access across the state.
He expressed optimism that residents would begin to see progress soon, stating that tangible developments would emerge within the next 14 days, particularly under a renewable energy initiative covering 10 states.
Speaking during the visit, Abba Aliyu disclosed that the Federal Government had completed a nationwide mapping exercise to identify communities in need of rural electrification.
Aliyu also revealed that the government is deploying 1,000 mini-grids across different states as part of efforts to expand electricity access and address power supply challenges in underserved communities.
The renewed commitment comes amid concerns over prolonged power outages in parts of Abia State, with the State House of Assembly recently attributing the blackout affecting areas served by Aba Power Limited to a shortage of gas supply.
