Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has reportedly declined an offer from Turkish champions Galatasaray to switch to the club’s iconic No. 9 jersey, choosing instead to retain his preferred No. 45 shirt.

According to Turkish newspaper Sabah, Galatasaray officials presented Osimhen with a new No. 9 jersey following the departure of Mauro Icardi, who previously wore the number. However, the Nigerian forward politely turned down the offer, saying the No. 45 jersey has brought him good fortune throughout his career.

“I know you will sell more jerseys, but I hope you understand me. Number 45 has brought me luck at Galatasaray, and I want to continue wearing it,” Osimhen reportedly told the club’s management.

Osimhen’s attachment to the No. 45 shirt dates back to his time at Belgian side Charleroi, where he enjoyed a breakthrough season, scoring 20 goals. He later wore No. 7 at Lille and No. 9 during his successful spell at Napoli before returning to No. 45 upon joining Galatasaray.

The decision has also fueled speculation that the 26-year-old is committed to remaining with the Turkish champions, despite transfer rumours linking him with a move away this summer.

Galatasaray reportedly consider Osimhen untouchable, with head coach Okan Buruk building his squad around the Nigerian striker ahead of the new season.

Reaffirming his commitment to the club, Osimhen said he has no plans to leave.

“Galatasaray is my family, and I am very happy here. We have a very special bond. I’m not going anywhere. My only thought is to make our fans happy again,” he said.
