Nigerians, including several celebrities, have begun an online campaign calling for the cancellation of South African singer Tyla’s scheduled December concert in Lagos, citing renewed concerns over xenophobic attacks against foreigners in South Africa.

The campaign, tagged “South Africa Thinks We’re Fools,” gained momentum days after the concert announcement, with critics accusing Tyla of remaining silent on repeated attacks targeting Nigerians and other African immigrants in her home country.

Media personality Do2dtun criticised Nigerians planning to attend the show, recalling how Nigerian artiste Burna Boy reportedly faced threats over his stance against xenophobia in South Africa.

Former BBNaija housemate Pere Egbi urged the Nigeria Immigration Service to deny Tyla and her team entry visas, arguing that Nigerian artistes have also faced restrictions in South Africa.

Author Solomon Buchi described Tyla’s planned performance as “insulting,” saying she failed to publicly condemn the attacks before announcing a concert in Nigeria.

Content creators including Sea King, Izzy Ogbeide, D English Alhaji and Isa Bako also joined the campaign, with many calling for a boycott of the concert. However, Bako’s suggestion that people assault concert attendees has drawn attention for advocating violence.

The controversy comes amid lingering tensions over xenophobic attacks in South Africa and renewed calls for stronger protection of Nigerians abroad.
