The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will publish the final list of candidates contesting the 2027 governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections on October 10, 2026.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed this during a world press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, according to a statement posted by the commission on X on Wednesday.
The publication will mark another major stage in the commission’s preparations for the 2027 general elections and will formally confirm the candidates fielded by political parties for the state-level elections.
INEC said 21 of the 22 registered political parties submitted candidates for the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.
The parties submitted 936 governorship and deputy governorship candidates, as well as 9,692 candidates for various State House of Assembly seats.
The commission had earlier published the personal particulars of the nominated candidates in line with the electoral timetable. The final list is expected to incorporate withdrawals, substitutions and other changes made during the nomination process.
INEC also disclosed that 18 political parties submitted 36 presidential and vice-presidential candidates, while the final list of National Assembly candidates was published on September 12, 2026.
“The final list for governorship and State Houses of Assembly candidates will be published on 10th October 2026,” the commission said.
