The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has mourned veteran actor Olu Jacobs, describing his death at 84 as a loss beyond the Nigerian entertainment industry.
In a condolence message shared on his official social media page on Wednesday, Atiku described Jacobs as “an institution, a cultural icon and one of the finest ambassadors of Nigeria’s creative spirit.”
He said Jacobs became a familiar figure to generations of Nigerians through his memorable roles, distinctive voice and contributions to the entertainment industry.
Atiku noted that the late actor had already made significant contributions before Nollywood gained global recognition, adding that his work helped pave the way for younger actors.
He said Jacobs’ impact went beyond entertainment, as his roles became part of the memories of many Nigerians who grew up watching him.
“The curtain may have fallen on an extraordinary life, but the characters he gave us, the standards he set and the generations he inspired will continue to speak for him,” Atiku said.
Atiku extended his condolences to Jacobs’ wife, actress Joke Silva, their children and the entire Jacobs family, as well as members of Nollywood and the wider African creative industry.
He prayed for the repose of the late actor’s soul and strength for his family.
