Award-winning broadcaster and football analyst Adam Catterall has warned that Manchester City’s hopes of reclaiming the Premier League title could suffer a major setback if midfielder Rodri leaves the club this summer.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s Saturday Session, Catterall described the Spain international as a key figure in City’s title ambitions, insisting the midfielder has returned to top form after recovering from injury.

According to him, Rodri’s impressive performances for Spain have reignited transfer speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid, a development he believes would significantly weaken Manchester City’s chances of winning the league.

Catterall said Rodri’s influence on the team is irreplaceable and stressed that Pep Guardiola’s side must keep the midfielder if they hope to mount a serious title challenge this season.

The 30-year-old is reportedly a target for Real Madrid ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, with negotiations said to be ongoing. Rodri is yet to agree to a new contract with Manchester City despite receiving an extension offer, while his current deal is due to expire next year.

Meanwhile, Manchester City have strengthened their squad with the signing of Elliot Anderson for a reported £116 million and are also pursuing Moroccan midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi as they prepare for the possibility of Rodri’s departure.
