A fire outbreak has been reported at SPAR, a popular shopping outlet in Calabar, Cross River State, on Saturday morning.

The fire reportedly started inside the shopping outlet, sending thick smoke into the surrounding area and across parts of the city.

Fierce flames could also be seen from Barracks Road, located about 100 yards from the scene.

Firefighters reportedly arrived at the location and were making efforts to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.

The extent of the damage and whether anyone was injured in the incident could not immediately be confirmed.

The cause of the fire also remained unknown as of the time of filing the report.

Authorities are expected to provide further details after the fire has been brought under control and an assessment of the incident is conducted.
