The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has called for a coordinated approach in the fight against illicit drug trafficking and abuse.
Ordue made the call in Calabar during an engagement with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Cross River State Command, led by its State Commander, CN Anteyi John.
He said tackling illicit drugs requires intelligence-led operations, preventive interventions, public enlightenment, community engagement and effective enforcement.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Police Command’s readiness to support the NDLEA in disrupting criminal networks and protecting vulnerable members of the public from the consequences of drug abuse.
He also stressed the importance of sustained inter-agency collaboration in addressing drug trafficking, drug-related crimes, cultism, trafficking and other criminal activities.
Ordue said the Command would continue to strengthen partnerships with relevant agencies to safeguard lives and property and maintain a secure environment for residents, visitors and businesses across the state.
He urged members of the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information, stressing that security is a collective responsibility.
Responding, the NDLEA State Commander, CN Anteyi John, welcomed the Police Commissioner and his team, expressing the agency’s appreciation for the collaboration.
