A U.S. federal court has granted the FBI permission to submit sensitive records relating to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the court privately for an in-camera review in an ongoing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) case.
The case, filed by Aaron Greenspan, involves requests for FBI records concerning Tinubu, including documents from investigations dating to the 1990s. The FBI had asked to provide confidential declarations explaining why some information should remain withheld.
The agency cited several FOIA exemptions and argued that publicly explaining some of the reasons for withholding the records could reveal law-enforcement methods and potentially endanger the life or physical safety of an individual.
An in-camera review means Judge Beryl Howell will examine the sensitive material privately rather than making it available to the public or the other parties.
