A former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has called for the reintroduction of fuel subsidy, arguing that its removal has failed to improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
Dalung made the call on Tuesday while speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show programme.
The former minister criticised the Federal Government’s decision to remove the subsidy, saying the policy had placed additional pressure on Nigerians without delivering corresponding benefits to the wider population.
“On fuel subsidy, I stand with the reintroduction of fuel subsidy because the withdrawal of fuel subsidy has not benefited Nigerians. Rather, it has benefited the few people in government.”
Dalung also criticised the government’s approach to fighting corruption, alleging that the administration lacked the capacity and political will to effectively confront the problem.
His position adds to the growing debate over Nigeria’s fuel subsidy policy, particularly as opposition figures and some political stakeholders continue to call for measures to reduce the impact of high petrol prices and the rising cost of living on Nigerians.
