AWGU, ENUGU — Women across the five Local Government Areas of Enugu West Senatorial District have reaffirmed their unwavering support for the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, declaring that the developmental gains recorded under his leadership must be sustained and accelerated.
The women made their position known during the Enugu West Senatorial Women’s Solidarity Rally, held at the Awgu Local Government Headquarters, where women leaders, political stakeholders, traditional rulers, government officials and the chairmen of the five Local Government Areas converged in a show of solidarity and unity.
The event also provided an opportunity for the wives of the five council chairmen to host the wife of the Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, who attended the gathering as the special guest.
Addressing the large gathering, Mrs. Mbah commended the people of Enugu West for what she described as their steadfastness, unity of purpose, political awareness and commitment to the growth and development of Enugu State.
She described Enugu West as a zone with a rich history and enduring legacy, noting that its people are widely recognised for their integrity, courage, enterprise and strong leadership.
The Governor’s wife highlighted some of the achievements of the Peter Mbah administration, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, healthcare, education, economic empowerment and people-centred development programmes.
According to her, the impact of the administration’s policies and projects is increasingly visible across the state, with several initiatives already improving the quality of life of residents.
Mrs. Mbah, however, stressed that the development journey of Enugu State was far from complete, maintaining that the progress already achieved must not only be protected but also sustained and accelerated.
She emphasised the importance of consistency, stability and focused leadership in consolidating development, noting that the foundation laid in healthcare delivery, education reform, infrastructure expansion, economic empowerment and security must be strengthened.
She further painted a picture of the opportunities that could be achieved through sustained development, including better road networks linking towns and communities, more accessible healthcare services, schools capable of preparing children for a competitive future, thriving businesses, empowered youths and communities enjoying greater prosperity and peace.
With another election approaching, Mrs. Mbah urged the people of Enugu West to remain active and vigilant in the democratic process.
She called on fathers, mothers, traditional rulers, community leaders, market women, youths, artisans and civil servants to participate actively in the electoral process, vote wisely, protect their votes and ensure that their voices count.
She also urged supporters and volunteers to maintain grassroots engagement and continue taking the message of progress, continuity and opportunity to communities across the senatorial district.
Mrs. Mbah appealed to the people of Enugu West to support the re-election of Governor Peter Mbah, arguing that continuity would enable the administration to sustain ongoing projects and programmes while building upon the foundation already laid across the state.
She described governance as a shared responsibility, stressing that while government provides direction and leadership, the success of any administration also depends significantly on the support, participation and collective ownership of the people.
The solidarity rally also featured presentations of gifts to Mrs. Mbah by various groups, including cows and assorted food items, as expressions of appreciation, goodwill and solidarity.
The organisers said the gesture was aimed at strengthening the bond between the Governor’s wife and the people of Enugu West, while further demonstrating the zone’s commitment to the continued development of Enugu State.
The gathering attracted an impressive array of political leaders, government officials, women leaders, traditional rulers, board and commission members, community leaders and other stakeholders from across the five Local Government Areas.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Ugwu; Chairman of the Enugu State APC, Hon. Dr. Martins Chukwunweike; and the member representing Awgu North Constituency and leader in the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jane Eneh.
Others included the Enugu West Zonal Deputy Women Leader, Hon. Dr. Oby Echi; President of the National Council for Women’s Society, Enugu State Chapter, Hon. Dr. Chichi Ogbu; Enugu State APC Action Women Leader, Hon. Mrs. Esther Edeh; Commissioner for Gender, Children and Social Development, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Eneh; Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dame Ugochi Madueke; and the Commissioner for Human Development and Poverty Eradication, Hon. Prof. Benedette Okoli.
Also present were the five Local Government Chairmen and their wives, zonal and Local Government women leaders, chairmen and members of boards and commissions, royal fathers and other community stakeholders.
The rally ended on a strong note of solidarity, with stakeholders across Enugu West collectively assuring Governor Peter Mbah of their total, unwavering and complete support for his administration and its development agenda.
The declaration further underscored the growing political mobilisation within Enugu West ahead of the next electoral cycle, as stakeholders pledged to remain united in supporting what they described as the continuity of the state’s ongoing development trajectory.
